OUR STORY

Already during our time as au pairs in Paris many years ago we discovered our love for France and the French language. Various trips through France allowed us to discover the many differing landscapes. During a holiday in 2018 in the southern Languedoc region it became clear to us that this is where we wanted to live. In 2019 we took the decision to fulfill our dream of openening a guest house. The Maison Gecko, formerly known as Auberge Gekko, simply was ideal for our purposes. Its geographical situation close to the Mediterranean, the montains and many cultural sites convinced us right from the very start. We're sure that you too will love this place !

MEET MARTINA & MEIKE

Martina Herber

Martina

  • Born and raised in Saarbrücken in the beautiful Saarland
  • Au pair in Paris after her A-Levels
  • Training in the hotel business in Freiburg (Black Forest)
  • Various positions in hotels and restaurants in Germany
  • Further training as Foreign Language Correspondent and business studies
  • Recently she worked several years in project management and in the export division in Munich

Those are the « hard facts ». But what makes me tick ?

  • Apart from German I speak fluent French, English and Spanish
  • I love to travel – not just visiting the country but also to learn more about the people and the local culture
  • I love to cook – mainly without a recipe
  • I’m creative and practically minded
  • I’ve a talent for organization and can keep a cool head amid total chaos
  • I’ve a cosmopolitan attitude. I love to communicate and to meet and get to know new people
  • I love life and I believe that there are still many interesting encounters are waiting for me
Meike Scheerschmidt

Meike

  • Born and raised in Leutesdorf in the beautiful Middle Rhine region
  • Au pair in Paris and in the US (close to Manhattan) after her A-Levels
  • Degree in International Business Studies in Germany, France and the UK
  • Various positions in Marketing, distribution Management, Sales and E-business in two big chemical companies
  • Sabbatical in China (Beijing and Shanghai) and owner/manager of language school in Munich
  • Recently several years of project management and procurement jobs in a large insurance company in Munich

Those are the « hard facts ». But what makes me tick ?

  • I love languages (I speak German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin Chinese)
  • I’m a globetrotter – apart from the Arctic;-)) I’ve been to all continents
  • I’m a sportswoman – mainly running, hiking, yoga and tai chi and qi gong
  • I’m a recently qualified yoga teacher and like to pass on my knowledge in the future
  • I’m a bookworm – trying to read texts in their original language
  • I love to be a host and to meet and get to know new people
  • I’m grateful for my many opportunities and want to continue implementing them
